Summary

With a consideration of each website's primary and secondary audiences (prospective and current students and faculty), I redesigned the websites according to the concepts of usability and user experience (Rogers, Sharp, and Preece, 2011; Nielsen, 2012). I reorganized various website elements to allow users to accomplish basic tasks efficiently (learnability and efficiency), to reestablish proficiency quickly (memorability), and to recover from potential errors easily (errors). By placing similar elements in similar positions, the redesign also significantly increased the principles of visibility and consistency. The redesign eliminated constant disorientation of users, thus making user experience with each website more pleasurable.

“Technical and Professional Writing Program Marketing Plan.” (2013). The University of Texas at El Paso.

As the Research Assistant for the Technical and Professional Writing Program (TPW) at UTEP, I created the TPW marketing plan that included a marketing strategy, a month-by-month marketing campaign, and the effectiveness benchmarks. (PDF version)

“Placing the Groundwork: Suggestions for Improving Communication Practices at the First Presbyterian Church of El Paso.” (2013). The University of Texas at El Paso.

Through this service-learning project, I worked with a local church that struggled to find effective ways of communicating (internally and externally) in a digital age. After analyzing the communication practices of the church, I prepared a proposal focusing on three major areas that needed improvement: bridging the gap between different generations in the congregation; enhancing the connection between the church and its preschool program; and improving the church's practices for welcoming newcomers.
